Rudy Gay Drops 41 As Memphis Routs Miami

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Rudy Gay set career highs with 41 points and 15 field goals as the Memphis Grizzlies crushed the Miami Heat in a 118-90 final.

Marc Gasol posted 16 points and 15 rebounds with O.J. Mayo also contributing 16 points for the Grizzlies, who have won four of the last five games with a pair of impressive wins against Cleveland and Dallas among them.

Zach Randolph checked in with 13 points and seven rebounds as Memphis shot 52.8 percent from the floor.

“We’re starting to understand how to play with each other,” said Gay. “We’re all new here, no one’s really played together for more than a year. We’re starting to know each other’s game a lot quicker than a lot of people thought.”

Dwyane Wade paced Miami with 25 points and Dorell Wright scored 16 for the Heat, who have lost four of their last five games and moved to 0-2 on a a six- game homestand. Jermaine O'Neal had 12 points in the loss.

“Everyone needs to go home and check themselves in the mirror and come back tomorrow with a different mentality,” said Wade. “The way we played tonight was unacceptable from all of us.”

Memphis got off to a good start and led 37-25 after the opening 12 minutes and Sam Young scored the Grizzlies' first nine points in the second frame to extend the lead to 46-29 three minutes in.

The visitors continued to hold a double-digit advantage and entered the break up 62-49. The Grizzlies turned it on in the second half, outscoring the Heat 31-18 in the third quarter led by Gay’s 15 points to earn a 93-67 lead.

Midway through the fourth, Memphis was up 30 after Gay scored his final two points of the game at the line. The Grizzlies cruised to an easy victory from there.

Gay finished 15-of-28 from the floor, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and sank 8-of-12 at the line. Gasol ended 7-for-7 from the field...The Grizzlies are 4-9 as the visitor this season and will host the streaking Celtics on Monday...Memphis has won four of its last five games against Miami...Miami is 6-7 at home this season and will also host the Raptors, Magic, Trail Blazers and Jazz on its homestand...Miami guard Quentin Richardson sat out with a hamstring issue...Grizzlies rookie center Hasheem Thabeet had a career-high five blocks.
