Quietly, the Cincy-Xavier game has become one of the more-heated local match-ups in the country. But nothing has ever measured up to Sunday’s showdown, which got downright feisty:
The Cincinnati-Xavier Rivalry Is Doing Just Fine, Thank You
This was the best game in the rivalry in a decade. Twice in the first half, the two teams flirted with full-scale brawls. They wound up playing two overtimes in a frantic atmosphere that thrilled the people at ESPN, who unfortunately had relegated this game to their ESPNU channel, not as widely distributed as either of the main networks.
“It’s definitely one of the most intense games I’ve played in,” said Xavier guard Jordan Crawford. “They came in and tried to be the bullies. We’re not backing down from them.”
Remember Crawford? He’s the one who dunked on LeBron (despite Nike’s efforts to erase that from the record). If he ain’t afraid of King James, he’s certainly not worried about the Bearcats.
