Mark Sanchez To Practice Wednesday, Status Uncertain For Sunday

After sitting out last week to rest his injured knee, Mark Sanchez is set to return to the Jets' practice field on Wednesday, but his status for Sunday's game against the Falcons is still up in the air and head coach Rex Ryan isn't in a rush to name a starter.

Sanchez will return to practice Wednesday, Rex Ryan said late today in a conference call with reporters. Ryan, perhaps engaging in a little gamesmanship, wouldn't say if Sanchez will start Sunday against the Falcons. He said he wants to see Sanchez in practice before making a decision. Ryan hopes to have Sanchez and Kellen Clemens split the reps on Wednesday.

Ryan has also said he will be cautious in naming a starter lest he make snap judgment like last week.

“I thought he would play last week, at the beginning of the week, but I was wrong,” Ryan said Monday. “I think we made the right decision. Those extra days of treatment are going to help Mark. We’ll see what it’s like (tomorrow).”

Assuming he is healthy enough, Sanchez will split the first-team reps with Clemens.
