The Redskins Would Still Like That Money You Owe Them

Before the horrendous policy banning signs from FedEx Field incited Redskins fans to a raging froth, there was the other indignation inducing and widely circulated story about the team suing fans who could no longer afford the multi-year seat contracts they entered into with the club. Then, once having collected the missing funds, the Redskins were re-selling many of the seats to scalpers.↵↵The focal point of that first scandal was 72-year-old Pat Hill, a real estate agent and grandmother who was being driven into bankruptcy because the team was taking her to court to collect $66,364 she owed from the seat contract but could no longer afford to pay. Based on publicity drummed up by a Washington Post story, the team asked the courts to vacate the ruling demanding her debt be paid in full.↵
↵↵Ah, but she was just one of any number of fans the team is aiming to collect from. According to the first Post story, the team had already taken action against 125 fans. Just how many are left isn’t clear, but it’s enough that the Redskins are hiring a full-time employee to deal with the issue of collecting from defaulting fans. Obviously, these are contracts that people signed into knowing that this was a possibility, so the franchise has a right to retrieve money it is owed. Hopefully having a person solely dedicated to the task will help the team set up payment plans that were reportedly not available or prohibitive in the past. ↵
