The Saints already own the city of New Orleans; it’s not as if they need more leverage. But as ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas points out that the Saints are on the verge of the longest winning streak in the history of professional sports:
Saints Set To Make History In NOLA
↵↵With 13 consecutive wins, the Saints are currently tied for the longest single-season winning streak in the history of Louisiana professional sports.
↵Want to guess who the Saints are tied with? Well, we know the Saints have never done this before. Another clue: The Hornets haven’t done it since their rival in New Orleans.
↵No, you’ve got to go way back into history — and obscurity. The answer is the New Orleans Buccaneers.
↵↵
And really, it’s fitting that the of all the teams to eclipse the record of New Orleans’ ABA record, it would be the Saints. There’s something poetic about New Orleans’ most successful team being an ABA team—a league built on beautiful chaos, exactly like the city of New Orleans—and if some team has to take away that mantle, it’s fitting that it’s Drew Brees and the fun-loving Saints.
