New Redskins VP of Football Operations Bruce Allen, owner Dan Snyder and ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, who was the head coach of the Bucs under Allen, spoke about the hiring Thursday.
Bruce Allen, Dan Snyder, Jon Gruden Speak About Redskins Front Office Change
Allen on joining the franchise his father coached in the 70’s:
“This is an extraordinary opportunity with one of the world’s most successful sports franchises,” said Allen. “I love everything about this assignment; I know what it means to be dedicated to the Redskins. I can’t wait to get to work.”
Dan Snyder on his newest pawn:
“Bruce Allen is the personification of an NFL winner,” Snyder said. “Our fans know his heritage; we know his abilities. He is the right person to lead our club.”
And Jon Gruden, who is currently the insufferable analyst for Monday Night Football:
“Bruce Allen is a great football mind and an even better person. His background and understanding of the Redskins’ tradition will be a huge asset. He is a leader and a great fit for this job. He’s a big reason why I had any success in coaching. I’m really happy for him and I wish him the best.”
Allen and Gruden worked together in both Oakland and Tampa, so the obvious speculation is that the Redskins will name Gruden their next head coach in the near future. The timing of the Cerrato departure/Allen hiring is curious as well with Gruden coming to Washington this Monday for MNF.
