Employees of the Fiesta Bowl wrote checks to candidates with bowl-friendly policies, according to the Arizona Republic. This would be fine and hunky-dory and well within the guidelines of campaign finance and professional ethics if they weren’t reimbursed by the Fiesta Bowl, which they were, and that’s why the State Elections Board is looking into the $38,000 of contributions made since 2000 by 14 different Bowl employees.

This comes on top of the $4 million in lobbying, schmooze parties, and other freebies shelled out by the Fiesta in the name of keeping their name in the BCS equation. Guess who has a conference call today? Bill Hancock, spokesperson for the BCS. Have you ever heard a man burst into flames over the phone? Oh, you will.
