With a start against the Ottawa Senators on Friday night, Martin Brodeur will set the record for most games played by a goaltender. That mark is currently set at 1,029 by Patrick Roy. Brodeur has already tied another record this season, matching Terry Sawchuk's shutout record with a 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on December 7th.
Martin Brodeur To Set Another Record Friday Night
The New Jersey Devils have had a good record in their last five games but have not played a solid game during that stretch. John Fischer from our New Jersey Devils blog, In Lou We Trust, has this wish from tonight's game:
60 minutes of effort, Devils. I know it’s a cliche. I know I’ve said it before. But despite the 6-2 record in December, the Devils have played one game wherein they played hard in each period. I’ve said it before, and it still holds true.
From the other side, the Ottawa Senators are coming off a 2-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night and are still getting their lineup straight after losing Jason Spezza for four to six weeks. Facing the Devils is not the ideal team to still get a team's bearings right. From our Ottawa Senators blog, Silver Seven:
The Senators have not fared well against the Devils as of late, to the tune of eight straight losses. However, all of that will hopefully change tonight when the Sens hit the Prudential Center. New Jersey have won 9 of their last 11 games, and the Sens have now won 3 of their last 4. Ottawa is looking to improve upon their pitiful 5-8-1 road record as well.
With the start, Brodeur has one record completed but he will have to shut down the Senators to complete the double play of sorts.
