Raiders Fans the Latest to Engage in Pointless Protests Against Incompetent Ownership

It’s become very modish for supporters of consistently underachieving NFL teams to whip up teabag-like protest fervor against the guys running their franchises. Bengals fans were out in front on this trend, buying up billboards to beseech owner Mike Brown to hire a GM. Redskins fans have recently proposed similar measures. Browns fans attempted to organize a mass walk-out for a Monday night home game against the Ravens a few weeks back.

Now Raiders fans are in on the act. And sure, Al Davis could hire a GM, but knowing Davis, anyone he would bring in would be an inept lackey that Davis could keep under his thumb without any difficulty. The same applies for anyone the similarly imperious Dan Snyder would hire to replace Vinny Cerrato.

Of course, Who Dey Revolution had some success generating notice from sports media via these types of efforts, but less so actually getting Brown to comply with their demands. And now that the Bengals are winning in spite of not heeding the pleas of their more vocal fans, the once intense protests are essentially nonexistent. Fans might have legit gripes against the way their teams are run, but all they really want is to root on a winner. A few token messages of dissatisfaction might make them feel as though they’re getting through to the brass, but when they become cheerleaders once conditions turn more fair, it looks like a bunch of wheels were spun for nothing.
