Miami Takes Over In Second, Beats Minnesota By Five
Coral Gables, FL (Sports Network) - Durand Scott scored 20 points to help the Miami-Florida Hurricanes rally past the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a 63-58 victory in an ACC/Big Ten Challenge tilt.
Malcolm Grant scored 16 points and James Dews added 11, as the Hurricanes (8-0) remained unbeaten. Dwayne Collins had 11 rebounds to go with his nine points.
Lawrence Westbrook tallied 14 points for Minnesota (4-3), which has lost three straight.
Miami led 17-10 with 12:25 left in the first half, but Minnesota outscored the Hurricanes 20-8 the rest of the way to take a 30-25 halftime lead. The Golden Gophers shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.
Miami took its first lead of the second half at 43-42 on Grant's three-pointer with 10:59 left in regulation. After Reggie Johnson's jumper with 8:41 left, the Hurricanes never trailed again en route to the five-point win.
The two teams combined for just a 13-of-28 showing at the foul line on the night.
