We reported yesterday that the Bengals’ Chad Ochocinco planned on wearing Chris Henry’s number 15 jersey in San Diego on Sunday. This, as it turns out, will not happen.
Ochocinco Won’t Be Wearing Chris Henry’s Jersey Vs. Chargers
↵↵While Henry’s No. 15 jersey will be on the sideline during the game, it doesn’t look like it will be on the field. Ochocinco doesn’t believe he’ll wear the jersey, according to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, saying, “I don’t want to be a distraction.”
↵↵Of course, this doesn’t mean that Ochocinco’s heart doesn’t weigh a thousand pounds today. He tweets, via Adam Schefter:
↵
↵An @OGOchocinco text this am: "I'm playing with an extra set of hands, legs, and heart, 85 + 15 = 100 ways I'll be great today."
↵
↵The NFL likely would have faced a public-relations nightmare if they’d punished Ochocinco for wearing Henry’s jersey. At the least, they surely would have been at loggerheads with the NFLPA, which volunteered to pay Ochocinco’s fine for him (despite rules prohibiting such a transaction). Luckily for the League, a crisis has been averted. Did I just use the word ‘crisis’? Goodness gracious. A player wanted to wear a different number on his jersey for one game.
