Good News, Braves Fans: Chip Caray Will Be Your Guy Again

↵↵Chip Caray, by almost all accounts, was not a good baseball announcer this fall. He was savaged by Richard Sandomir, then again by our own Dan Levy, and he was, wonderfully, eventually let go by TBS.↵

↵↵But Chip Caray is apparently a zombie bent on haunting Braves fans. How else to explain him being hired by Fox Sports Net to do play-by-play for all Braves games broadcast by Fox Sports South and SportSouth, even after flailing on the national stage?↵

↵↵Braves fans should be understandably divided on this topic: Yes, Chip Caray is the son of longtime Braves broadcaster Skip, and having a Caray around would at least be a reminder of Skip Caray’s fine work for over 30 years. The Cardinals, however, do not keep Joe Buck, a shadow of the late, great Jack Buck, around for the same purpose, and Joe Buck is much better at his job than Chip Caray is. (The Cubs, it is worth noting, do not have a Caray in the booth, despite Chip’s one more year of tenure with WGN than TBS.)↵

↵↵And no one -- no one -- is tuning into baseball games because of the announcer, but some will flip away if the coverage is poor. The Braves already struggle for part of the apathetic Atlanta sports area; why handicap the team further by putting a broadcaster who has proved a poor choice before at the mic again? Does someone at Fox Sports Net just enjoy hearing the “fisted” call?↵
