Clearly feeling left out after last week's MLB offseason news was dominated by the Phillies, the Yankees decided to go out and make a move of their own Tuesday morning, reportedly sending outfielder Melky Cabrera, Mike Dunn and another prospect to the Braves for starting pitcher Javier Vazquez and Boone Logan.
Yankees Trade For Javier Vazquez, Because They Really Need More Starting Pitching
Vazquez had an outstanding season last year in Atlanta, posting a 2.87 ERA, 238 K’s, .223 BAVG and finishing fourth in Cy Young voting. He will likely be the third or fourth pitcher in the Yankees’ rotation, which should be terrifying news to the rest of the A.L.
With the Yankees already trading for centerfielder Curtis Granderson earlier this month, Cabrera became expendable.
So, to recap: The two best teams in baseball last season -- NY and Philly -- have significantly improved their teams so far this offseason. An early Christmas present for ESPN.
