According to Fox Sports, the Atlanta Braves are about to find a replacement for departed first baseman Adam Laroche. Ken Rosenthal reports the Braves will add Troy Glaus to play first base:
Braves Add Troy Glaus To Play First Base
The Braves have reached agreement on a one-year contract with free agent Troy Glaus to play first base, according to a major-league source.
The deal, which also includes incentives, is pending a physical, the source said.
Glaus, 33, has made only six career appearances at first, two last season with the Cardinals. However, he will give the Braves a potent right-handed bat as they seek to improve their offense.
Glaus missed all but 14 games for the St. Louis Cardinals last season, but prior to that, he's enjoyed a long and prosperous career, most notably with the AL West's L.A. Angels. He's spent the bulk of his career at 3B and SS, but the move to first should help keep him healthy and hitting for the Braves. He had shoulder surgery last January and was expected to be ready for last season, but had complications in his rehab. Still, if he can stay healthy, Glaus' power could be quite a boon to the Braves lineup, especially considering the void created by Laroche's departue.
