Tonight Boston College will take on USC in San Francisco. Sort of an odd pairing--regardless of tonight’s outcome, USC badly underachieved this year, and BC greatly overachieved. Neither team’s fate will change tonight. So it’s safe to say that while both teams want to win, it’s maybe not a “do-or-die” scenario.
Emerald Bowl: Wait, Two Teams Really Have To Share A Sideline?
↵But still, even if the teams might not have that ruthless mindset, do they really have to share the same sideline? From the L.A. Times’ preview of tonight’s game:
↵↵The Trojans were recently accustomed, for better or worse, to playing annually in Pasadena in January in one of college football’s most venerable stadiums.
But after losing three of their last five games and finishing 8-4, they’re about 380 miles north, playing in AT&T Park, a baseball stadium that requires both teams to share a sideline.
Nevertheless, Mays and others said motivation won’t be an issue against an 8-4 Boston College team that was picked to finish last in its division in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
↵↵Like, really? Did Ali and Frazier share a corner? Do Ohio State and Michigan have to share a locker room next year? What happened to clean, old fashioned hate? This is college football... Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts, huh? What happened to the Delta I used to know? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
↵
↵Err.... Sorry. Was on a roll there, for a second.
↵Really though, bowl games like tonight’s Emerald Bowl are already glorified exhibition games. Do we really have to put two teams on the same sideline, and make them that much more exhibition-ish?
