Kragmas has come and gone, and Louisville has talked to at least one interesting candidate: Phil Fulmer, Tennessee’s longtime coach, donut aficionado, and a man with a national title ring and two SEC titles to his name.
Louisville Talking With Fulmer, And It’s Weird
↵Fulmer is at least somewhat familiar with the recruiting territory, well-rested, and was one of the more consistent coaches throughout his tenure at Tennessee. The natural inclination is for Louisville to go after someone more established after taking a chance on a hot young talent—Kragthorpe—and losing badly on the gamble.
↵Is he really who you want to come in and electrify a program in need of some energy, though? Fulmer was never a high-voltage guy, and his teams at Tennessee often looked outcoached in his later years. College football loves it some retreads (a reminder: Howard Schnellenberger is still coaching), but whether Louisville wants to skimp on the tires here is something they should really think long and hard about.
