Look, we all know that superstars (Dwight Howard excepted) treat the Slam Dunk contest like a paid public appearance at the local AT&T store. But nobody likes a flake, whether it’s your drinking buddy or possibly the most athletically-gifted NBA player of all time.

↵You might remember LeBron James entering himself into the 2010 Dunk Contest at last year’s all-star weekend. Now, he’s apparently “50-50” on actually following up on that promise.
↵Weak, LeBron, weak. But what might be worse is how Cleveland sportswriters are actually defending him. The Cleveland Plain-Dealer’s Brian Windhorst doesn’t blame LeBron because LeBron is in a “no-win situation” (just like Dwight Howard, right?), while the Akron Beach-Journal’s George Thomas writes that superstars have a right to change their minds, which is kind of like saying it’s okay for Michael Jordan to back out of a charity commitment so he can pocket an extra $50k for a Hanes commercial.
