The Los Angeles Clippers have been eagerly awaiting December 15th. That was the target date for the return of No. 1 draft pick and franchise player Blake Griffin to the line-up after an injury that has sidelined him since October. Turns out, he's going to need a little more time to heal according to head coach Mike Dunleavy.
Dunleavy: Blake Griffin Out Until January
"Now that I'm learning more about [his injury]," said Dunleavy. "It's probably looking more like after the first of the year."
Griffin originally injured his left patella in training camp, knocking knees with teammate Craig Smith. After sitting out a stretch with what was called a bone bruise, Griffin aggravated the injury in the team's final exhibition game against the New Orleans Hornets.
Further examination revealed a stress fracture that originally had Griffin sidelined for the first six weeks of the season.
The Clips will be entering a brutal road stretch in the second half of December, which would have complicated Griffin’s recovery further so perhaps it’s for the best. Keep an eye on ClipsNation for more updates and opinion.
