As Field Gulls speculated might happen, Seattle Seahawks general manager and team president Tim Ruskell resigned on Thursday.

“Obviously there’s sadness today,” Ruskell said.
He paused for a moment and swallowed hard.
“I will leave here with great memories of this place,” Ruskell said. “And the people. It has been the people for me.
“I am proud of what we have done, and I wish the new phase had gone quicker, but it didn’t and that’s the way that the NFL works.”
In his first year with the team, 2005, Seattle advanced to the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl. But since that time, the Seahawks have gone just 27-32, including 4-7 thus far in 2009.
“He felt it was the right time for him to pursue other opportunities,” Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke said. “We also felt it was the right time for the Seahawks to begin the process of finding a new leader.” [...]
“You wish you could have done more, but that’s the way it works,” Ruskell said. “It wasn’t for lack of effort, or lack of passion.”
Ruskell said that his best moment with the organization came in 2007, when team owner Paul Allen raised the 12th Man flag and the Seahawks beat the Panthers to advance to Super Bowl XL.
Ruston Webster will serve as the general manager in the interim, but Mike Holmgren’s name is already being mentioned as a replacement.
