For Once, a Favre Not Getting Everything He Wants

Brett Favre has run roughshod over the entire world the last few years, leaving countless flustered coaches, GMs and sportswriters in his wake. Yet for all the Favre name has gotten Brett, it can’t make up for the relatively small stature of his nephew Dylan.↵↵The high school senior accounted for a total 81 touchdowns this season en route to a Mississippi Class 4A state title. In the championship game, he threw for 369 yards and three touchdowns, while also contributing 16 tackles and an interception as a safety. He also happens to own the state record for career touchdown passes, with 40 more than the next highest QB on the list.↵
↵↵Yet the only figure Football Bowl Subdivision schools seem to be focusing on is his 5’ 11” height. Even if at that size, he’s an inch taller than Doug Flutie and one shorter than Chase Daniel. Nevertheless, so far only Tulane and Southern Miss have offered scholarships, along with FCS school Northwestern State. Earlier this year, Houston Nutt inquired whether Dylan would be interested in switching to a defensive position in college, but the QB balked, saying he’s playing under center or not at all.↵
↵↵This Saturday at the Offense-Defense Bowl represents Dylan Favre’s best opportunity to show FBS coaches that the height isn’t a hindrance. His linemen will range between 6’3” and 6’8”. Meanwhile, he’ll be throwing against USC-committed safety Dion Bailey and LSU-committed defensive back Ronnie Vinson. Succeed there and maybe he too will be able to ignore the demands of head coaches on the sidelines one day.↵
