David Stern said in an interview with Sports Illustrated that he sees women playing in the NBA within the next decade. The Cavs’ Anthony Parker, whose sister Candace plays in the WNBA, doesn’t see it.
Will Women Play In The NBA Someday? They Just May!
↵↵“First of all, I don’t see why, other than to say a woman can do it,” he said. “But for long term? No way. My sister is a good player and has great skill, but as far as making an NBA roster? No. She’s 6-4, which is the average height of a shooting guard. I’m never going to say never.
↵↵Ahem.
↵A LIST OF REASONS WHY WOMAN WOULD WANT TO PLAY IN THE NBA APART FROM “JUST TO SAY A WOMAN CAN DO IT”:
↵1. Money.
2. Participation in a watershed moment not only for sports, but for American culture in general.
3. The simple desire to pursue a life equipped with qualification and merit, and free of preordained cultural artifacts.
↵I don’t mean to pick specifically on Parker here, but it’s quite common to hear that a woman desires a role commonly/exclusively held by men because She Has Something To Prove, or She Has A Chip On Her Shoulder, or something. To the contrary, many women self-actualize simply because they seek the benefits that follow! Just like men do! Whoa!
