It wasn’t exactly the scale of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, but three Big 12 teams faced off against three Pac-10 foes on Wednesday night. (It’s part of the Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood Series, which the Big 12 leads 4-0.) The Big 12 came away with a clean sweep. Baylor and Arizona State was one of those under-the-radar games where the Bears came away with a resume-bolstering win over the Sun Devils. Texas easily handled USC. But the one everyone is talking about today is Texas Tech’s upset of No. 12 Washington in Lubbock. First, the end of regulation:
A Win So Nice, Texas Tech Stormed the Floor Twice
You can’t see it in that angle, but in the ESPN shot, you can see Mike Singletary barely misses getting the shot off in time. It’s so close. Thing is, the students rushed the floor before the shot was nullified. That meant not only did the floor have to be cleared of students and celebrating players, but it also had to be cleaned up so it was actually ready for play. But that didn’t stop Texas Tech, which took control of overtime for good with a steal and bucket by John Roberson with 43 seconds remaining. The four-point lead was too much for the Huskies that late as Roberson knocked down four FTs and David Tairu got a layup, which led to storming No. 2:
I feel like I watch a lot of college hoops, but I honestly can’t remember any fans storming the court twice. I’m not one to hate on youthful exuberance and all that, but c’mon, the victory was in hand, and you’d already been on the floor once that night.↵
