8 P.M., Return Of The MAC: Central Michigan Faces Ohio In Conference Championship

Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Dan LeFevour completed 28-of-39 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, as Central Michigan took down Ohio, 20-10, in the Mid-American Conference championship game at Ford Field.

LeFevour, who also threw an interception, set a MAC record for career touchdown passes with 101. Chad Pennington (Marshall) held the previous record with 100 TD passes. LeFevour also set a NCAA record for total touchdowns with 148 -- 101 passing, 46 rushing and one receiving, eclipsing Hawaii’s Colt Brennan.

Bryan Anderson hauled in seven passes for 54 yards and a score for the Chippewas (11-2), who won their third league title in the last four seasons. Antonio Brown caught eight passes for 66 yards, while Cody Wilson had a TD catch. Bryan Schroeder rushed for 72 yards on 16 carries.

Theo Scott connected on 10-of-23 passes for 138 yards for the Bobcats (9-4), who had a four-game winning streak snapped. Wide receiver Taylor Price threw a 29-yard touchdown pass. Terrence McCrae caught seven passes for 141 yards and a score, while Chris Garrett carried the ball eight times for 42 yards for Ohio, which was participating in the MAC title game for the second time in four seasons.

Central Michigan went ahead 7-0 on LeFevour’s 14-yard TD pass to Wilson with 5:22 left in the first quarter. Wilson’s touchdown grab capped a drive that went 70 yards in seven plays.

Ohio fumbled the ball on its ensuing possession. Scott threw a pass behind the line of scrimmage to Price, who bobbled the ball before the Chippewas recovered at the Bobcats’ 36. Central Michigan settled for a 25-yard Andrew Aguila field goal to build a 10-0 margin with 1:26 remaining.

The Bobcats needed just four plays on their next drive to get into the end zone. Faced with a 1st-and-10 at the Chippewas 29, Price completed a touchdown pass to McCrae on a trick play to cut the gap to 10-7 with four ticks left on the first-period clock.

Aguila missed a 35-yard field goal early in the second, but Central Michigan scored a TD on its next possession. Anderson capped a 13-play, 84-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown catch to put the Chippewas ahead, 17-7, with 17 seconds left in the half.

The third stanza saw a pair of field goals. Aguila made a 19-yarder with 9:01 left to make it a 20-7 game. Matt Weller was good from 36 yards out to cut the gap to 20-10 with 5:36 remaining.

Central Michigan’s defense held strong in the fourth quarter to preserve the win.

The Chippewas have handled Ohio throughout the years, posting a 21-4-2 mark against the Bobcats, who have not claimed the conference championship since 1968.
