Doesn’t it seem like this happens every week? It does, right? So, yeah: it’s tough to get too excited about the Redskins getting out to an early 10-point lead over the New Orleans Saints this afternoon.
Deja Vu For New Orleans... OR IS IT?
↵
The Saints give EVERYONE an early lead. It’s part of what makes their mystique; it’s like their offense needs a degree of difficulty before Drew Brees and co. start hitting on all cylinders. And, oh look! The Saints just tied it up, 10-10. So, really and truly, we’re not saying that the 12-0 Saints are going to lose this afternoon.
↵But if they do… Can you imagine if it happened against the Washington Redskins, aka America’s Running Punchline?
↵
Some things to consider: Washington’s not as bad as their record this year. Some teams are just snake-bitten beyond belief. That’s them. Also, take it from someone that just ordered a pizza instead of going to get my weekly Sunday Five Guys order, it is FREEZING COLD in Washington D.C. And the Saints, for all their dominance and infectious joy, are a warm weather team that plays in a dome. "December" is a not exactly a New Orleans specialty.
↵It’s not that the Redskins are as good as the Saints, but sometimes, these things just happen like a perfect storm. It may feel like a familiar narrative for the Saints, but don’t be surprised if they lose this one today. Really. Just wait.
