Don Nelson’s Logic Still Mind-Blowing

I’m not messing with any Amare rumors today; they’ve degenerated into “this team has no one Phoenix wants, but in theory would be interested in the power forward,” yet are still dominating hoops consciousness. Instead, let’s go with a nugget of wisdom from Don Nelson, currently trying to deal with the absence of Andris Biedrins -- you know, the only guy on the Warriors who can consistently rebound, block shots, or present any sort of defensive challenge in the paint.↵
↵
↵With Biedrins out, don’t expect to see youngster Brandan Wright, or more minutes for the perplexing, if ambitious, rookie Anthony Randolph. No, Rony Turiaf will be holding it down because, according to Nelson, he’s perfect for the team. From Inside Bay Area:↵↵⇥“(Turiaf’s) a perfect blend for what we’re trying to do,” Nelson said. ... He’s not a great rebounder, but he puts himself in position where he has to give up the rebound because of his great shot blocking. So we understand that. But he works hard on rebounding. It’ll be good if he could get a couple more.”↵↵I love Don Nelson. Just when you think you understand basketball, or at least his version of it for this season, he throws one of these at you and completey scrambles your brain. I doubt this statement will have major implications for the NBA as a whole. But every now and then, it’s nice to be reminded that, no matter where Amare Stoudemire’s headed this hour, Nellie will never let us down. His failure to stand still or conform to standard practice is always refreshing, even liberating.↵
