Teammates Wreck Each Other During Daytona Practice, Blame Inanimate Objects

I won’t try to fake my way through an actual analysis of NASCAR. But I do that crashes are bad, and that Tony Stewart is kind-of crazy. So when Tony Stewart crashes with a teammate in practice and then goes a bit crazy, well that’s NASCAR magic.

↵Stewart crashed with Ryan Newman, who drives for Stewart’s company, in the last practice before Sunday’s Daytona 500. Apparently, Stewart was trailing Newman closely when Newman’s car lost a tire and spun out. Blame ... the tire.↵↵⇥“Same stuff that we always talk about every year, failures Goodyear has,” said Stewart, who frequently takes the tiremaker to task. “I think that’s part of their marketing campaign — the more we talk about it, the more press they get. But, I think they forget it’s supposed to be in a good way, not a bad way.”↵↵Yes, this is all a part of Goodyear’s master plan to be known throughout the world for making bad tires. Actually, that might be right. For decades the name Goodyear has been tied to a giant zeppelin, a vessel made most famous by the Hindenburg. There’s gold in them thar disasters.↵
