Thabeet and Griffin Go Bonkers

↵UConn is No. 1 in the nation, and Oklahoma’s No. 2. But Sooner Blake Griffin is the de facto No. 1 pick in the 2009 NBA draft, while Huskie Hasheem Thabeet fits somewhere in the top 10. Neither disappointed Saturday.
↵
↵Griffin went bonkers against Texas Tech, scored 40 points on 22 FGAs and adding 23 rebounds. From tip to horn, Griffin was a complete Alpha on the court, simply destroying everything in his path all over the hardwood. Say what you will about his potentially overstated height, but the dude just dominates -- in the halfcourt, in transition ... everywhere.
↵
↵Thabeet’s devastation comes around the rim. He scored 25 points, added 20 rebounds ... and came one block short of his second triple-double of the week. The talking box in my living room informed me that no player since Kenyon Martin has gone 20-20-10. It would have been a wonderous achievement. Alas, Seton Hall eventually figured out the Thabeet is tall, smart and defensively skilled. (You know what’s really amazing? Nine blocks, 20 rebounds ... and one freaking personal foul. Thabeet is absurd.)
↵
↵For my money, the game of the day (to date) has been Georgetown at Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. The Orange choked on their own success in the second half, and just edged the Hoyas in overtime. Donté Greene looked dapper as hell on the baseline. He was very excited that Jonny Flynn got 16 FTAs. But honestly, the teams were a nice extra. I could watch elephant seals do the 100m freestyle in a packed, loud Carrier Dome. (Oddly, I still can’t watch Syracuse football. Weird.)↵
