When I look back at this year’s dunk contest, the only thing I’ll remember was TNT’s (and the judges’) blatant xenophobia towards Rudy Fernandez, who, despite two-minutes-plus worth of trying, converted the most impressive dunk of the night. None of the dunks from that point on was all that impressive or original. Especially not Dwight Howard’s “free throw line” dunk, in which a seven-footer took off from a foot inside the line and barely made it to the rim. ↵

↵He actually took off from behind the line and flushed it with relative ease. And he’s about a half-foot shorter than Howard. I’d venture to say that’s the finest that dunk has looked since ... well, since MJ set the standard over 20 years ago. (Note: I realize Dr. J did it first, but MJ did it best.)
