Ray Lewis Could Be Left Out in the Cold

With free agents signing, and players being traded, all over the place today, Ray Lewis has remained stagnant. Based on purely name recognition, there is no bigger free agent than Ray-Ray, yet the Ravens haven’t resigned him, nor has any other team. This could have something to do with the fact that he’ll be 34 when the season starts. The sun is setting, for sure.↵↵There were plenty of rumors leading up to today that Lewis wanted to sign with the Cowboys, and there were signs that Dallas was interested. According to Mike Florio, the latter is no longer the case. And what’s more is that Lewis might be end up with no option but to come crawling back to Baltimore:↵

↵↵⇥A league source tells us that Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis could be the odd man out in the free-agent linebacker market. The fate of Lewis is tied directly to the destination of linebacker Bart Scott. ↵⇥↵⇥The problem is that Lewis has only one real option -- the Jets. So if Scott signs with New York, Lewis will be out of luck. ↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥As the source put it, “Lewis could be slapped in the face for the first time in his career.”↵⇥

↵↵Someone is going to slap Ray Lewis in the face? Like a pimp slap? With an open fist? That doesn’t seem advisable. Unless the source meant figuratively, as in the Ravens will be slapping Lewis with the measly three-year, $24 million deal they’re rumored to have on the table. That’s Kerry Collins-type money. Figurative slaps don’t get much more painful than that.↵
