Roethlisberger’s Had Ouchie During Super Bowl

Prior to the Super Bowl, Steve Young said something on ESPN to the effect of, “Ben Roethlisberger needs to be suffering from some sort of injury to play well.” It sounded ridiculous at the time, but perhaps Young was onto something. Because, according to Peter King, Roethlisberger played XLIII with broken ribs. And he certainly played well:↵↵⇥Roethlisberger, playing on adrenaline, toughed out the game with at least two small rib fractures -- which didn’t show up in an X-ray the week before the game but did when he got an MRI after returning to Pittsburgh.↵↵This obviously explains why Ben struggled in his first Super Bowl appearance three years ago -- his ribcage was way too healthy. It doesn’t explain why he threw the game-winning pass into triple coverage, however. Roethlisberger admitted that had he “thought about it,” he would’ve have thrown the ball to Holmes on that play. Luckily for Steelers fans, Ben’s not much of a thinker. ↵
