Digger Phelps’ Picks Are Enticing, Impossible

After the tournament field was announced last night, ESPN had a tidy little two hour breakdown of the entire bracket, which culminated with Jay Bilas, Hubert Davis, Dick Vitale and Digger Phelps revealing their Elite Eight, Final Four and National Champion predictions. Surprisingly, they didn’t go all chalk -- some went way out a limb and picked a three-seed here or there (they all seem to be really big on Missouri). ↵↵But then, there was Digger, who took that limb, snapped it in half over his leg and re-defined the limits of what was previously thought possible by making this pick:↵

↵↵That’s right, Digger has Pittsburgh playing Xavier in the Elite Eight. Which will apparently be a rematch of their game in the Sweet Sixteen round seeing as those two are on the same half of the East region and therefore could not otherwise meet in the Elite Eight. This is a man who uses a box of Highliters to color coordinate his closet -- the rules do not apply to him.↵
