Kevin Garnett Sticks Up for Marbury (Again)

So Stephon Marbury has yet to have one of those games that screams “we got a superstar who will folllow orders for nickels on the dime.” Sorry about that. Though Marbury’s willingness to role with the punches, and not get frustrated and force some low FG% outburst of an evening, is encouraging. If nothing else, you’d just like to see him eventually bring out that absolute stud of a playground player, even if that’s the best you can hope for with him.

↵But former BFF turned enemy turned booster Kevin Garnett says Marbury’s ceiling is even higher, and that when he comes around, we’ll be reminded just why so many teams have taken a chance on this guy. From The Boston Herald: ↵↵⇥“Not only is he versatile, but people forget that Steph was one of the premier guards in this league for a while. And other than him not playing for a year, we all expect big things out of him. But I think he expects a lot of big things out of himself. He works extremely hard. You just don’t, excuse my French, be the (expletive) from a point guard standpoint, all them years of being who you are. Obviously, the facts are there, but you just don’t become that. You get that through hard work, watching film. I know what kind of drive he has inside, and I think he’s going to help us in the long run.” ↵↵There’s also plenty of KG defending Marbury’s honor and mental state over the years. Either we’re seeing all sorts of latent love and affection—and perhaps youthful delusion—being reawakened, or Garnett’s pulling out all the stops because he knows someone’s expecting him to hint that Steph’s flawed. And that if he does, it’ll count ten times as much as if anyone else on the Celtics did so.↵
