Busch Revs It Up in Atlanta
Kurt Busch, yes I said Kurt, stormed his way to a first place finish at Atlanta Motorspeedway yesterday and by doing so showed just how strong those new nosed and newly powered Dodges can be.
The Dodge cars got a new nose this year which is a little bit better areodynamic wise than the previous one as well as a new horsepower pumper under the hood.
Those new Dodge motors seem to be running just fine now too.
You’ve got to give Kurt credit because its due in this case, he earned that victory - his car was stout to say the least.
Kurt is currently sitting 3rd in points and has the potential to remain in the top 12 for the rest of the season - he is a former Champion after all - but I’m still a little worried about the reliability of the new Dodge powerplant. I’ll be feeling a little better about Kurt’s chances for the Championship once the first 3rd of the season is over and if he is still in the top 12 or not. Once that happens we should get a good indication about the reliability of the new Dodge engine.
Other notable things about Atlanta:
- Whoa, did you see all those empty seats?
- I’m not mad at the crew member for running after that tire - are you? NASCAR would have thrown the caution anyway because it would have stopped in a bad spot and would ahve been a serious hazard for any car spinning in the infield. I just wonder if they would have ‘waited’ until all of the green flag stops had cycled through before putting out the caution flag to ge the tire out of harm’s way? What do you think?
- Mark Martin is killing me in my one pool - can’t that guy just finish a race somewhere near the top 10? I know, his latest problem was not caused by him - its all Goodyear’s fault. Right? Now leave me alone you Martin fans, I passed blame. Ok?
- Where was Jr? This isn’t the start that he wanted to the early part of race season I bet.
- Ok, I liked Gordon’s paint job and I leave any connection to Dale Earnhardt Sr out of this - you’re just looking too deep - ok?
- Oh getting back to the tire guy, even though I believe that NASCAR would have put out the caution anyway, I agree with NASCAR’s suspension of him for chasing that tire out of the pit area and onto the infield - he was a danger to himself and everyone else on the track who might have hit him. If a tire rolls away, you let it go! Period.
- Have you looked at the standings lately? Kurt is 3rd, Bowyer (with a new team essentially) is in 2nd, Stewart with a new team is in 6th, and Kane (9th), Vickers (11th) and Reutimann (12th) are all in the top 12 and really shouldn’t be based on their lack of performance from last year. Interesting, very interesting. I’d like to hear your ideas as to why these guys are doing it, yet someone like Earnhardt isn’t.
That's it for now. If you've been reading my previous post and the fanpost link you'll know that I've got a lot on my plate right now. I should be back tomorrow, but if I'm not you'll understand why if you at least read the fanpost about the Atlanta Race Discussion Board.
