Fran Tarkenton Will Not Back Down

In case you missed it, Fran Tarkenton is not exactly in the “Let’s Bring Brett Favre to Minnesota” camp. Like a lot of us, he’s flat-out tired of the whole circus and went as far as to call it “despicable.”â†µâ†µA few ex-Vikings stepped up and took the opposing view. Tarkenton has already responded to everyone who doesn’t agree, and I have a feeling we could be seeing the birth of a new people’s champ.â†µ

â†µâ†µTarkenton took aim at a lot of people/groups, but my favorite rant might be directed at Marcellus Wiley, who called Tarkenton a “grumpy old man”:â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥Marcellus Wiley, who is trying to parlay a minimal football career into still making more money. This grumpy old man is 69 years old, I own six businesses, I’ve built 16 over the years, I’m paying my taxes, I’ve started two new businesses, we’re hiring more people ...â†µâ†µâ†µAnd I’m cutting that quote off very short. It goes on ... and on. But he wasn’t finished. He also lashed out at the worshipping sportswriters of the world:â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥I had an opinion that was not in agreement with Brett Favre’s opinion. Now, have the sportswriters and sportscasters across the country, have they just sucked up to Brett Favre and glorified Brett Favre on this subject matter -- don’t they have an opinion? They certainly haven’t expressed it have they?â†µâ†µâ†µI guess what I’m saying in all of this is that Tarkenton is a hero for our time, a time when we’re all held hostage by a constant Favre Watch.â†µ
