Soon, We Will All Be Named Colbert

↵At some point, decision-makers must stop letting The People’s voice be heard. Democracy is quite clearly a monumental failure. Just look at the ballot created to name the mascot of the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse.↵↵⇥The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse has named its eagle mascot “Colbert” after Comedy Central TV host Stephen Colbert. More than 3,100 students participated in the vote, whose results were announced Friday. Colbert received 44% of the votes, followed by Ernie with 14% and Edgar and Screech with 11% each.

↵⇥A Comedy Central spokesman says the fake political pundit wouldn’t comment on the honor.↵↵This comes months after Colbert campaigned to have a NASA space station named after him; Colbert’s write-in effort was successful, but NASA refused to, um, certify the results. UWLC obviously has a sense of humor: a student petition led to the inclusion of Colbert on the official ballot.
↵
↵The best part of this story, however, is that the school originally named the mascot “Eddie the Eagle” ... but that name is trademarked by the National Rifle Association. Eddie the Eagle is NRA’s gun-safety mascot.
