Memphis Hoops: Where Qualifying SAT Scores Appear To Be Optional

Yesterday, Memphis came to the conclusion that they had no proof there were any improprieties with Derrick Rose’s SAT score. Well, good for them.↵↵They might have to go back to square one again and start poking around for other allegations, but this time it’s about another player. CBS Sports is reporting that Robert Dozier attended Memphis, not Georgia, because the Bulldogs were concerned about a potentially fraudulent SAT score.↵

↵↵⇥According to a source, Dozier took the SAT once before trying to enroll at Georgia, but that score was flagged after the school received a tip that the score might be “fishy.” ... So the school asked Dozier to take the SAT again, and a source with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com that the second score was “not enough to resolve the issue.” Put another way, Georgia officials were not properly convinced the first test and second test were taken by the same person, which led to the end of Dozier’s time as a Georgia recruit in August 2004.↵↵↵First, I must point out that Gary Parrish, the man doing the reporting for CBS on this one, knows the Memphis program. Prior to his jump to CBS Sports, he was the Memphis beat writer for the Commercial Appeal. So don’t take these accusations lightly.↵

↵↵Now I know that yesterday, Mike DeCourcy pointed out that the NCAA gave Rose the green light, but shouldn’t some blame be assessed to Memphis as well? Look, I don’t disagree with DeCourcy there. Not at all. (Nor does Spencer.) But at a certain point, no matter how bloated and dumb you think the NCAA is, do you point a finger at a program?↵

↵↵I’m guessing that time is coming right about now.↵
