Bowdens At Different Stages of Kubler-Ross

↵↵

↵↵If you don’t know, headline-readers, Kubler-Ross is the five-stage process via which people cope with terminal illness or other forms of catastrophic loss, like the ability to look in the mirror and call yourself a football coach.↵

↵↵The Orlando Sentinel’s landed an exclusive(!!!) interview with a rich guy who spends his days cooking, fishing, and having the world’s most boring hobby: ↵

↵↵⇥↵⇥“And really like to get out – I would actually compete with my next-door neighbor on who could work in the yard the longest. We used to joke about it. But that’s what I did. Most of the time.”↵⇥

↵↵↵Yes, that is an actual quote from deposed Florida State offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden, R-U-N-N-O-F-T from the Seminole program after years of calling nothing but Jeff Bowden-Patented Hopeful Downfield Jump Balls. Far too many of those clanged uselessly to the ground for Bowden to keep his job, but he seems okay with that:↵

↵↵⇥↵⇥“I don’t look back. And I’m not bitter about it. I’m really not.”↵⇥

↵↵↵Ah, acceptance. Perhaps it’s not-quite-convincing acceptance, but it’s not exactly this from older brother Tommy, himself deposed as Clemson head coach last year: ↵

↵↵⇥↵⇥Former football coach Tommy Bowden refutes the portrayal of his departure from Clemson, calling the midseason move a “dismissal.” … “I kind of anticipated it,” Bowden said. “I was not naive to the expectations.” ↵⇥

↵↵↵I really wish there was a snarkier quote in there instead of what appears to be a calm discussion of the midseason canning that saw improbably-named receivers coach Dabo Swinney ascend to the top of the mountain so I could shove him into anger. For what it’s worth, the athletic director still clings to his meaningless PR:↵

↵↵⇥↵⇥Phillips maintains he did not inform Bowden he would lose his job at any specific time, but said he did not have to because of the emphasis placed on reaching the conference title game.↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥Clemson had yet to be eliminated from contention, but sources have said the school was prepared to announce a coaching search once the team was out of the race.↵⇥

↵↵↵Which, like, great. “You are fired, but not for a little bit yet, which makes this not a firing unless you decide to stick it out pointlessly.” That’s worthy of the pointy-haired boss in Dilbert. If Tommy’s not angry he’s at least annoyed.↵

↵↵As for Terry, he’s just entered the bargaining stage by taking the North Alabama job in a last-ditch effort to get a desk and some guys wearing helmets he can tell what to do. Terry’s grief is as deep and wide as the ocean ↵

↵↵The elder Bowden? Denial, obviously. ↵
