Rick Trickett Wants To Know What Your Major Malfunction Is

It’s been a banner couple of weeks for inflammatory quotes from players transferring between football programs. Kurt Wermers started the ball rolling by ripping Rich Rodriguez for the usual lack of family atmosphere and kids who “weren’t his crowd,” finishing off by saying he figured he’d “get out while he could.” Naturally, it was revealed he was academically ineligible the next day. By “get out while he could” he meant “leave because he had to.” Semantics, I say. â†µâ†µThen Washington State safety Romeo Pellum topped that by being the first person in history to describe an aspect of Washington State’s program as “strict”:â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥“(The coaches) are untrustworthy and I don’t want to be a part of the Wulff era,” he said. “I wouldn’t say all of the coaches, but a handful.” Pellum also said the team’s strict and unfair nature became evident after he witnessed the suspension of five players, four being reinstated, and three charged legally.â†µâ†µ

â†µâ†µLike freaky celebrity deaths, these things come in threes, and there’s no more obvious candidate to draw the ire of the wrap-up complainer than legendary hardass Rick Trickett, Florida State’s offensive line coach. Chant Rant shares an apocryphal story about Trickett that absolutely cannot be true…â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥Trickett allegedly peed on a football twice before allowing a center to snap the ball because he was “pissed off” at the kid.â†µâ†µâ†µ…but reveals much about the man anyway. Rick Trickett is Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. End of story, maggot. â†µ

â†µCombine that with one four-star recruit who shows up to summer conditioning 40 pounds overweight, stir thoroughly, and wait for explosive decompression:â†µ

â†µâ†µâ‡¥“I was mistreated and cussed out for no reason every day. I was told I would never play and called an (expletive) every day. He (Trickett) told me I would never play for him. He said he wished he had never signed me and all of that. I tried to put up with it, but it kept going on. He kept calling me a stupid (expletive) and all of that. My leaving had nothing to do with football. I told them I came there to play football, not be mistreated as a person.”â†µâ†µâ†µThat’s offensive lineman Aubrey Phillips, who left Florida State so fast mayflies think he died quick. For plenty of outrage see the link above and Tomahawk Nation, which features an oversized photo of Phillips’ moonpie faceand says he “waddled back to Mississippi.” Perhaps not the best representation of the blogosphere’s toleration and understanding, but, hey, we’re not posting stills from the Erin Andrews video. â†µ
