Imagine my surprise when my rec league team soccer team showed up to our vaguely grassy, sprinkler-head-infested half-size field to play seven-on-seven and saw Giuseppe Rossi, Jozy Altidore and the rest of CF Villareal had flown in to play us. How did it go?↵↵Not well.↵
I Played Villareal, Lost 27-0, and All I Got Was This Stupid T-Shirt

↵After the 21st goal, we thought surely they’d buy Eddie Johnson and put him in just to staunch the bleeding, but apparently not. Villareal: not very nice, actually. ↵↵The team in question here—not actually my rec team despite appearances—is CF Navata, which immediately brings to mind the following questions:↵
↵
↵↵-- Why are they playing Villareal? ↵
↵↵-- Why are they playing Villareal in their home stadium, which appears to hold literally dozens of spectators? ↵
↵↵I could find no explanations for any of these questions outside of Navata, which The Offside discovered is a club in the ninth tier of Spanish soccer, the “Tercera Territorial de Catalunya”. The club doesn’t have a Wikipedia page in English, Spanish or Catalan, and may just be some friends having a laugh. Or the winners of a fabulous contest. Second prize was a kick in the nuts.↵
