Teams Will Get ‘Do-Over’ If Punts Hit Jerry Jones’ Gigantic Video Board

↵
↵The drama over the video board at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium seems to be resolving itself with news that the league will adopt a rule you’d use with your friends as a kid: they’ll just have do-overs. The video board will not be moved. Take it away, PFT:↵↵⇥Specifically, if a ball strikes the video board, the play will be dead at that point and the down will be replayed from the previous spot.↵⇥↵⇥If the officials on the field don’t notice the ball striking the video board, the replay assistant will be empowered to trigger a replay review -- even if the incident occurs outside the final two minutes of each half, the normal time period during which the replay assistant has the power to call upon the referee to assume the position at the portable replay booth.↵⇥

↵⇥↵⇥And if the replay official doesn’t believe the ball struck the video board but the head coach of either team thinks otherwise, a red-flag challenge will be available.↵⇥

↵↵↵OK, so that all resolved itself nicely, but can we discuss this other video board related nugget for a moment? Why was Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer throwing potatoes at the video board at the new stadium? Was this some old standard of measurement? “And so it was written. Find the burliest of your men, grab a quartet of potatoes and the height to which the highest one is thrown shall be the standard for all multi-million dollar video boards!” ↵

↵↵I’m at a complete loss for the correlation between the two, but Glazer seems satisified, and so does the commish, so it’s time to move on. That is, until one of these video board reviews needs to happen with less than two minutes and the replay official doesn’t notice it. But that won’t happen, right?↵
