Pacman to the CFL: He Gonna Make it Snow

The Adam “Pacman” Jones sweepstakes, somehow less breathlessly covered than Michael Vick’s (possibly because this is Pacman’s third shot in football instead of his second), has come to a temporary conclusion, with the former Titans and Cowboys corner signing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League. ↵↵And a midseason acquisition by the Blue Bombers, no less. The team has already played eight games, notching a 3-5 record. As humbling as that sounds, going to a CFL team, and a mediocre one at that, looks to be a far more crafty move for Pacman than sitting by the phone or joining a UFL team. ↵

↵↵From the SI.com story:↵

↵↵⇥UFL players are prohibited from jumping to the NFL prior to Dec. 1, but CFL players can depart earlier if granted a release from their contract. Murphy said Jones has led him to believe that he wants to play the remainder of the season, which ends Nov. 8 (Nov. 29 for the playoffs). But he added: “Nothing is written in stone.”↵↵↵So Pacman gets to demonstrate that he can play with a team, albeit one in the CFL, without incident and be free for acquisition by an NFL team by the first week of November, at a time when his services are likely to be needed by a team depleted in the secondary. By then, if all goes well, it’ll have been a full year since his last major off-field incident with his security guard in Dallas. Whether that’s enough for him to be cleared of stigma by NFL executives remains to be seen, but it’s a much more compelling case than he has now.↵

↵↵Now, if only Jones had exercised such canny decision making all along, he wouldn’t be running up and down 110-yard fields in Winnipeg.↵
