Mike Gundy did what every man over 40 would do in the lead up to a huge game to open the season: he put his team on media lockdown to minimize distraction. A fine idea, but two of his starters did not get the memo, as starting defensive back and kick returner Perrish cox was arrested last week for driving with a suspended license, and starting tight end Jamal Mosley quit the team on Tuesday. OSU head coach Mike Gundy said Mosley was leaving “for personal reasons” and wished him well.

It's difficult to say which news is worse for the Cowboys as they prepare for their season opener against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday in Stillwater. On the one hand, if Gundy decides to suspend Cox, the team would be losing its top defensive back and one of the country's better kick returners; on the other hand, replacing tight end Brandon Pettigrew (a first round NFL Draft pick in '09) might be the team's top question mark heading into the season.
The smart money is on Gundy declining to suspend Cox for what was a fairly minor transgression, leaving the tight end situation as the team’s biggest question mark in what many see as a potential break through season. Oklahoma State enters the season ranked #9 in the Associated Press Poll and #11 in the Coaches Poll.
