After his recent outings, and Wednesday’s backlash, both from fans and media alike, it was clear Brad Lidge wasn’t closing anything for the Phillies tonight. All signs pointed toward Brett Myers getting the ball with a lead in the ninth. So naturally, Charlie Manuel called on Ryan Madson to finish Wednesday night’s 6-5 win over the Nationals.
Ryan Madson Closes Out Phillies Win Wednesday Night
Madson made his manager look smart (at least for one night) by pitching around a lead-off hit before securing the win by forcing Adam Dunn into a double play. It was the first time all year that Manuel did not use Lidge when he was available.
