The Denver Post throws some cold water on the reports that the Broncos are discussing a contract extension with Brandon Marshall. From the Denver Post:
No Extension for Marshall?
Earlier in training camp, the Broncos submitted at least one contract proposal to Marshall, according to two NFL sources.
The proposal was considered to be team-favorable and was quickly rejected. Since that proposal, Marshall was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.
Several NFL executives and agents say they expect the Broncos to wait to see how Marshall performs before they engage in serious discussions regarding a contract extension.
So what’s going on here? The usually reliable Adam Schefter reported yesterday that, according to “two league sources”, the Broncos were working on hammering out a new contract with the temperamental wideout. The fact that Schefter’s account relies on two specific sources rather than the “several NFL executives and agents” the Denver Post refers to would seem to lend more credence to the rumors the Broncos are negotiating a new contract with Marshall. But at this point, who knows what Josh McDaniels and the Broncos front office are up to. I’m not even sure they know.
