Emotionally drained only one game into the season, Titans’ blog Music City Miracles kept it brief with some quick post-game comments, though they did share some immediate thoughts on what went wrong:
Titan, Steeler Fans Begin the Assessment Process
I cannot understand why the Titans did not change their defensive scheme late in this game. Ben Roethlisberger was picking them apart late because he had all day to throw. Why in the world would you not blitz on pretty much every down? I understand the concept of not wanting to give up the “big play,” but when they can get at least 12 yards on any passing play they want, what do you have to lose? Who knows if blitzing would have made the outcome different, but you have to at least sell out on a couple of plays. On the other side of the field, Behind The Steel Curtain is still gathering their thoughts but one commenter has already focused in on some of the things that led to the victory, chief among them the offensive line play:
Those guys battled and gave Ben some serious time to throw all through the second half. There were times that Ben was back there for about 5,6,7 seconds as the guys just stoned the four man rush. Now you might say that a 4 man rush should be easy to stop. That was simply not the case last year. Last year the 4 man rush got serious pressure on us almost every game. Today, the guys up front fought hard and won.Check both sites for post-game analysis and updates throughout the day on Friday.
