Raiders head coach Tom Cable confirmed what everyone had assumed was the case - that Darren McFadden will be the starting running back for Oakland. From Cable’s press conference yesterday:
McFadden Starting in Oakland
↵↵He’s shown a high level of consistency all through camp and certainly brings some explosiveness like we’re trying to build with this offense...it’s probably not your typical deal where he’s going to go 25 times, something like that, but he’ll get the bulk of them for sure.
↵↵Fantasy owners certainly drafted the former Arkansas star as if he was the starter, taking him in the fourth round and on. While McFadden may never be a workhorse-type back, the more relevant question is not how many total carries he gets, but whether he will get the red zone carries; Michael Bush is a big back who could steal some goal line looks. If you have other options at running back this week, use them until the situation in Oakland is clearer.
↵And here’s hoping the Raiders remember to use McFadden in the Wildcat formation he popularized back in his college days. He wasn’t too bad at that, as I recall.
