Gretzky Skips Practice. He’s the Coach, Right?

A good rule of thumb for professional athletes: you know you’re franchise is mired in chaos when your head coach decides, “You know what? Until they get all that stuff figured out, I’m not showin’ up.”

↵And that’s exactly what Wayne Gretzky did earlier today with the Phoenix Coyotes. As if the battle over ownership weren’t dysfunctional enough, Gretzky’s absence is here to provide a cherry to the Coyotes’ catastrophe sundae.

↵Add to that what I can only assume is the highly disorienting experience of playing hockey in Arizona, and the Phoenix players must be pretty bewildered right about now.
