Michael Young wants that Wild Card so badly that he’s coming back a little early to help his team. Young will be the Rangers’ designated hitter tonight and will bat in the No. 2 spot when the Rangers take on the Athletics at 8 p.m. EST:
Young to Make Return for Rangers
It’s my understanding that the major health issue at this point will be his acceleration out of the batter’s box, and it’s probably that aspect of his baserunning that will merit the closest observation — if he re-aggravates the injury, he’s probably done for the year, and that’s part of the risk/reward element involved with making a startlingly quick return to the lineup. At the same time, if the Rangers don’t win each of these next two games and then catch fire against Anaheim, what’s left of the season isn’t really going to matter much anyway, so this is a pretty reasonable risk to take.
Now, if only Josh Hamilton were healthy and himself …
The Rangers sit 4.5 games back from the Red Sox in the race for the American League Wild Card.
