Johnson will join the Giants’ bullpen fresh off the 60-day disabled list. He’ll be available to pitch tonight, if needed. More from AP:
Randy Johnson Activated for Tonight’s Series Finale
“We’ll have to give him time, we know it,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “Right now it’ll be short, two or three innings. Hopefully we can gradually build this up.”
The 46-year-old Johnson threw 53 pitches, including warmups, in a simulated game on Monday.
Barry Zito added that “energetically, he’s great to have around.” Which is odd because a) he’ll be out in the bullpen with the other loners, thus not really “around,” b) what’s the opposite of “energetic”? Because that’s how I think of Randy Johnson.
Also, to make room for Johnson on the roster, the team had to place reliever Justin Miller on the 60-day DL, ending his season.
