Week 1 in the NFL had all kinds of breakthrough performances. A player with six passing touchdowns? Check. A player with four passing interceptions? Check. The Texans looking terrible? OK, so that’s not unusual...and check.
Fantasy Stat Breakdown: Week 2
Here are some more interesting items you may have missed in Week 1.
- Here are the combined Week 1 stats for your “fantasy draft first-rounder” running back team of Michael Turner, Matt Forte, DeAngelo Williams and Frank Gore: 83 carries for 187 yards. That’s an average of 2.25 yards per carry. Damn.
- The Cowboys gave up a sizable 276 passing yards and a whopping 174 rushing yards in Week 1. And they were playing the Buccaneers! You need to consider starting anybody on your fantasy roster playing the Cowboys. Next week’s lucky winner: The Giants!
- The Texans only ran the ball 12 times on Sunday. The leading receivers for both teams in that game were the tight ends (Owen Daniels 44 yards and Dustin Keller 94 yards). Please step away from the ledge Steve Slaton owners.
- One thing that’s being overlooked in the “Eagles’ Demolition of Carolina/Delhomme Stinks/McNabb is Hurt” media blitz is that no Eagles wide receiver had more than 2 catches. That’s...not good.
- In his last two games, Joe Flacco has a combined 604 passing yards. Yes, the Joe Flacco on the Ravens. That Joe Flacco. He’d better not be on your waiver wire.
- Forty Niner QB Shaun Hill has now won six of his last eight starts. He’d better not be on your waiver wire either.
- In Week 1 there were 42 receiving touchdowns. A third of them were caught by tight ends. There were only three multi-receiving TD games and all three of them (John Carlson, Ben Watson, Jeremy Shockey) were by tight ends.
- Matt Stafford threw 3 interceptions and no touchdowns. Kevin Smith ran 15 times for only 20 yards. The Lions still put up 27 points on the Saints. The Lions didn’t score 27 points in A SINGLE GAME last year. Not once. It might be hard to see now, but this team is much improved.
- Patriots’ WRs Randy Moss and Wes Welker had more total receptions (24) than the Patriots had team rushing attempts (23). I know the Patriots won and Brady is awesome and fertile and all that, but at some point that type of one-dimensional game plan isn’t going to work.
- That last-second miracle 87-yard touchdown reception by Denver’s Brandon Stokely produced more yardage in one play than the daily all-purpose yardage total of Knowshon Moreno (19 yards) and Correll Buckhalter (57 yards) combined. Seriously, that’s a problem.
